Walk to support tigers
- and Paul
In 2022, Paul Goldstein ran his 25th marathon in his tiger suit — on Everest. Last summer, he walked the equivalent of 25 marathons in 25 days. Hundreds of others joined him.
This year, he is walking 1,000 miles for tigers: 500 miles from Anglesey to Southend-on-Sea, followed by a short break (or convalescence), and then from Southend to Land’s End. Most days will be marathon-length, except for some of the brutally hilly sections, where the distance has been tempered a little.
Powell Ettinger (friend and colleague of Paul, 5 September 2025): “No one else would have done this. No one else could have done this!”
Bengal tigers are endangered. The storyline is that their numbers are increasing, if we are to believe the census… Yet illegal poaching, human-wildlife conflict, and habitat loss continue to leave indelible scars on their population. However, it is the insidious evil of traditional Chinese medicine that has the most devastating impact on their future. Almost every part of a tiger’s anatomy is harvested for use in this despicable trade.
Like last year, this challenge will touch many people. Put simply… it matters.
Tigers cannot flourish without protection and education. 2 Legs for 4 1000 is proudly raising funds for two vital projects:
Lighting Up Time, Bandhavgarh, India
Monitoring Mountain Mammalian Diversity, Bhutan

Day
How to participate
The Second Leg (20 August – 12 September) comprises 22 walking routes – listed below.
To join a walk, register using the simple form and ideally send the website link to your (fit) friends. Most days are marathon length (once minor diversions and distractions are included). Walking the whole leg is very much encouraged, but you are welcome to walk a half marathon distance or even less. The route covers some gorgeous countryside and coastline. Some are already promising to do several days and make a ‘holiday’ out of it.
There’s no charge to take part, although a donation to the cause would be very welcome. You will need to download the OS Maps app to follow the carefully plotted route (OS usually offer a free 14-day trial).
Please consider wearing something to show what you’re walking for – whether it’s a tiger T-shirt, leggings, cap or something more eye catching. Just remember you’ll be walking for over 8 hours, in whatever weather the day throws at you, so make sure it’s practical. Dogs are very welcome, provided they are well behaved and follow local access rules.
Each day, one walker will act as navigator (top cat), leading the trek and staying in touch with the group via WhatsApp where possible. If you are confident doing this, please volunteer when you sign up.
You are responsible for your own food, travel and overnight stays. There may be places to buy food on the route, but this cannot be guaranteed. There will be a support team providing sustenance for Paul, if you want to partake there will be a small kitty for this. The sign-up document will include details of transport links to the start point and from the end point but for some you might need to find a friend to give you a lift, particularly if you are not doing the whole distance.
Raising money yourself for Paul and the suit’s cause is encouraged but not mandatory. If you’d like to do this, click here and go to ’Fundraise For Us.’ Or if not, you can donate here. Groups, families and solo walkers are all welcome, although walking with someone else is encouraged. Walkers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
This is a big physical challenge, needing good cardiovascular and muscular fitness. Start training!
